The basic thoughts I had on this story is an example of what great man can do change things. He shows how people shouldn't ask to receive a reward for their deeds no matter there importance and how we shouldn't boast of our deeds either. Sure he was not the average man in the fact he could rip a monsters arm off, the point that i'm trying to make is that physical strength is not the only thing that makes a good hero. A hero also requires some mental abilities as well, Beowulf made many points of this through out the story, but the most prominent I believe is when rips the arm off Grendel. This shows the people that the monster can be defeated and shows physical evidence of his deeds, also by having his arm ripped off it kills Grendel, which is a plus. But my overall idea of this story teaches some good morals throughout the story, although it does require some "reading between the lines" to find them.
